Lock items to a specific shipping method - and vice versa
Here you can learn about two freight-goods relationships.

Restrict an item to selected shipping methods = the item can only be shipped with the shipping method(s) you select
Here you can set how an item can be shipped. In other words, which shipping methods you can choose when you buy this item.Example: You sell food products that need to be delivered refrigerated. You create a shipping method "Cooler delivery with carrier X" for this purpose. Now you can set your food items to ONLY be shipped with this shipping method.
1. Search for 'restrict' and add the 'Restrict item to shipping methods' tool
2. Edit your item, press 'Advanced' and then 'Restrict shipping methods'
3. Activate the restriction and select which shipping methods can be used
Restrict a shipping method to selected items = the shipping method can ONLY be selected for selected items
With this setting, the focus is on the shipping method. Here you can decide whether the shipping method can be used for all items or only selected items.It is also possible to set the shipping method to be "unlocked" and can be used if the order contains one or more selected items.
Example 1: A shipping method is called "Carrier - pallets". This shipping method should only be selectable if you buy large items such as "washing machine" and not if you buy small items such as "screws".
Example 2: a shipping method is called "Sent via email". This shipping method should only be selectable if you buy gift vouchers or other virtual goods.
1. Go to 'Settings » Shipping methods' and create/edit the desired shipping method
2. Press the cogwheel at the bottom and add the option 'Restrict shipping method to items'
3. Change the 'Shipping method can be used by' button to 'Selected items'
4. Now you need to find and set the items that can use the shipping method. Search for and activate the 'Restrict item to shipping methods' tool. You can then use the tool where you edit the item under 'Advanced'.
