Canonical / canonical tag
A canonical tag is an HTML code, which is inserted into a website's <head>.
The code is used to tell search engines which page is the "main version" of a page with multiple versions.
This can, for example, be useful when links from social media or ad networks send traffic to your website. In those situations tracking parameters will often be added to the URL such as "www.domain.dk/underside?trackingid=blah".
Instead of search engines mistakenly indexing that URL, the canonical tag will ensure that only "www.domain.dk/underside" is indexed.
