Email hosting
Email hosting is a service that makes it possible to get a "real" email address through your ideal.shop subscription.
Such an email address stands out from free providers such as Gmail and Outlook because you use your own domain. For example info@ditfirma.dk or kontakt@ditnavn.dk
The email address can be installed on your phone, tablet and computer. It is also possible to use our web-based login to read and write emails.
Log in to your email here: mail.ideal.shop
Below you can find information and frequently asked questions regarding email hosting.
Creating a new email hosting / email address
Start by going to "E-mailhotel" in the left menu. If you don't see the menu item, search for "mailhotel" and add it in the super search.
To create an email address, you must first add a domain to your email hosting.
(if you do not already own the domain you wish to use, you can buy it under "Indstillinger » Domæner")
After you add the domain, the system will confirm whether it is ready to use. If you use our DNS, it will work automatically. If you use an external DNS, follow the guide below.
Once the domain is approved, you can add a new email address.
Moving from another email hosting provider
You can move email providers if you wish. There is nothing that "locks" you to a particular provider - not even a notice period. However, you should be aware of the following.
- If you move from another email provider to ideal.shop, your old email messages will not follow. You may still have access to the old messages, but they are stored either with your old provider or as a local copy on your device. You should talk to your old provider if it is important for you to have access to old messages after a migration.
- There may be differences in how webmail works with your old provider compared to ideal.shop. Our web-based login may have advantages and/or disadvantages compared to what you are used to.
- If you have a notice period with your old provider, this does not mean you are locked to them. You can move the email handling over to ideal.shop. You will simply have to pay your old provider for the remaining period until you are no longer bound by their subscription.
- You either move ALL email addresses or NO email addresses. It is not possible to have hej@mitnavn.dk with one provider and hello@mitnavn.dk with another provider.
Help with external DNS
If you add a domain that uses an external DNS, you must manually set up your DNS records to make the email handling work correctly.Consider moving your DNS to ideal.shop! It is free (included in all plans) and means you avoid a lot of technical challenges.
You can always click on the "alerts" next to the domain to see which DNS records are missing and need to be created in your DNS.
Note that changes to your external DNS are "detected" automatically. It may take between 10 minutes and 2 hours before a change is detected.
Setting up email on phone, tablet and computer
Email addresses from our email hosting can be set up on phones, tablets and computers.Use your favourite app or program, for example:
Apple Mail app (iPhones and iPad)
Gmail app (Android)
Thunderbird (Windows)
Regardless of which app or program you use, you should start by finding the "Add email address" or "Add account" option.
During the setup you will need the following information.
Incoming server (IMAP port 993): mail.ideal.shop
Outgoing server (SMTP port 465): mail.ideal.shop
User/account: your email address
Password: your chosen password
Forgot email password
If you have forgotten your password for an email address, you can create a new password from the administration.
Changing the sender name
By default your email address will not have a sender name associated. To set a name, go to "Indstillinger » Identiteter » youraddress" and save your desired name.
Forwarding messages
If you want to forward all messages to another address, this can be set in the administration of your email hosting.Start by logging in at https://mail.ideal.shop/admin/
After you have logged in, you can enable forwarding here.
If you run out of space
You can always see how much space you have used + how much space is available under "E-mailhotel" in the administration. If you use more space than is available, you will not be able to send/receive new messages.
The email hosting will reject incoming messages with status "5.2.2 Quota exceeded".
It is up to the sender's system how a sender is made aware of this situation. Therefore it is not possible to say precisely what happens when someone tries to send a message to a full mailbox. In some cases the sender will be notified that the email could not be delivered. In other situations the sender will not be informed that the message cannot be delivered.
