Domains with special characters (æøå)

A domain with special characters is actually a normal domain without the æøå, just with more information. This means that Facebook and other platforms show the "true version" of the domain.

The domain søm.dk is actually the domain xn--sm-lka.dk, which is just displayed "nicely" when you type it in your browser.

The domain juletræ.dk is actually the domain xn--juletr-uua.dk.

When you write a post on Facebook and mention the website www.søm.dk, it will be translated to www.xn--sm-lka.dk when you save the post.



There are several other websites and services that have problems displaying domains with æøå. For this reason, we do NOT recommend using these types of domains.

Instead, consider using a primary address such as "www.soem.dk" and purchase the domain "www.søm.dk" as an additional domain (redirect to primary domain).
