Recently, we have started to experience that the Facebook Pixel records too many (and incomplete) data points. This can be expressed by:
- Too many sales or visits being recorded
- Error messages in Facebook Pixel Diagnostics
In our experience, this is due to a specific setting on your Facebook Pixel.
The setting is calledAutomatically track events without codeand can be found inFacebook Business Managerwhere you can set up your Pixel. This setting usually needs to be turned off to correct the problem.
Background and technical explanation
Most webshop and website platforms, including ideal.shop, have a dedicated integration for Facebook Pixel, which can be used by entering your Pixel ID in the tool.
Once you have activated this, the platform will send the events that make sense to Facebook.
The problem arises when you BOTH use the dedicated integration and Facebook also tries to make registrations automatically. Then double registrations are saved. And in addition, Facebook often only gets partial data when they make automatic registrations.
This can be seen by using the browser plugin "Facebook Pixel Helper". Here is a webshop where 2 "correct" Pixel events are measured, a microdata registration and a defective event. The two events marked in red are initiated by Facebook's automatic registration, and the first one indicates that the data in the query is incomplete.
